Madrid may seem overwhelming at first. Gorgeous architectural creations at every corner, numerous historical sights, plenitude of restaurant choices, and spacious parks all uncover in front of your eyes expecting you to devote them all your attention! Time however seems to run faster when on holiday, and always something falls off the original sightseeing plan. This is why I created the following Google map to help you navigate your way through the jungle of sightseeing opportunities: Madrid Walk – First-timers exclusive.

However in this post I wanted to talk to you about those untypical sightseeing components that we sometimes overlook in the hunt of the next museum on our agenda.

Street musicians

They are everywhere and they are good. You can enjoy everything from a one-man-show to small orchestras. Take a break from the hectic sightseeing race to listen to these amazing street performers. They deserve it. You deserve it too.

People

Hands up if you consider people as sightseeing? No one? No worries, neither did I when I first started travelling. But now I know better. No matter how many museums you have seen, how many Velazquez paintings you have looked at, and how many churches you have entered into, your experience won’t be complete if you haven’t really seen the people in Madrid. Take your time to sit in a coffee place at Plaza Mayor, stroll around Plaza Puerta del Sol or simply mix with the crowds. It is worthy!

  1. This post took me right back to my time studying abroad in Madrid! Such a beautiful city with such beautiful people! You’re right–mingling with the locals is one of the best parts!

    • I wish I had more time to mingle, but hopefully I have the chance to go back there. It is indeed lovely!
