Healthy Snacks: Spicy Crispy Oven Roasted Chickpeas Recipe

You know how all things unhealthy (read, greasy spicy chips) attract you as a magnet, and even though you know you shouldn’t snack on them you end up doing so, and then the guilt creeps in? And by ‘you’ I may as well be referring to myself.

Recently I came across this oven roasted chickpeas recipe, and decided to give it a real spicy boost. The result: A simple and quick to prepare snack, jam-packed with good proteins.

Hello, guilt-free snacking.

Spicy Crispy Chickpeas (4-6 servings)

400 g canned chickpeas
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons chili flakes (optional – for an extra spicy feel!)
2 tablespoons ground cumin
1 tablespoon ground garlic powder
salt
white pepper

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 200 C / 400 F.

Rinse and drain the chickpeas. Place the chickpeas on a kitchen towel and absorb the excess water. (Optional) Remove husks if any.

In a big bow mix the dry ingredients, then add olive oil and mix again. Add the chickpeas and stir/toss gently until all covered with the spicy mixture.

Lay a baking sheet on a tray and spread the mixture coated chickpeas evenly on it. Pop the tray in the oven. Roast for approximately 40 minutes (until golden and crispy) while stirring every now and then.

Bon appetit!
